Abstract: From the end of March to the early of June after an exceptionally serious snow disaster occurred in January 2008,a survey was conducted upon the population dynamics of the territorial male bird during the breeding season of the Golden Pheasant(Chrysolophus pictus)in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area.The investigation was carried out in six sampling zones(32 sample plots)that was the same places in which we did the same type of investigation in the previous years.With comparison with the previous data,the result showed that the population density had declined to 35.11% on an average.The habitat quality significantly affected the survival rate of the golden pheasant,which was the lowest(6.30%)in the habitat formed by large-scale artificial pure forest of Larix kaempferi,whereas the survival rate was relatively higher to the highest(54.66%～91.36%)in the natural secondary mixed forest formed by the deciduous broad-leaved forest + theropencedrymion,and the mixed deciduous and evergreen broad-leaf forest.
