Abstract:

The systemic mosaic and malformation symptoms were observed on the leaves of periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus) from Bo’ao, Qionghai, Hainan Province and Xinghai Park, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. With the infected tissue culture, host range determination, serological assay and viral particle morphological observation, dsRNA analysis, the pathogen was identified to be cucumber mosaic virus (CMV). Cloning of the coat protein gene and analysis of the nucleotide sequences further demonstrated that this CMV isolate was tentatively assigned to the IB subgroup of CMV.
