Abstract: The method of selecting plus tree using treeS characters Was studied with Pinus sylvestris v&r mongolica．The method consist of three parts：1)elite family selection through progeny test and variance analysis；2)using the method of stepwise regression analysis to pick out some characters which have close relation to the condition of the tree growth and are easy to be measured； 3)establishing the diseriminatory equation and discriminatory index after the discrimillatory analysis finally．The results show that the method discribed above has higher efficiency and more economical．The aceuracy comes up to 71%．The method can also be refered for other species,
