Scientia Silvae Sinicae is a monthly forestry scientific journal, which is operated by Chinese Society of Forestry and supervised by China Association for Science and Technology. Its predecessor could date back to the China's first forestry magazine “Forest”, which was firstly published by the Chinese Forestry Association in 1921. In the onset of the publication, it was co-operated by Chinese Society of Forestry and Forestry Science Research Institute under the then Ministry of Forestry and published by China Forestry Press. In July 1956, it was put under Chinese Society of Forestry, and published by the Science Press. In 1976, the journal was given the name of “China Forestry Science”, under the operation of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science, and the Science Press was responsible for its publishing. in August 1978, the journal was returned to Chinese Society of Forestry, and resumed its former name of Scientia Silvae Sinicae 6 months later. Since January 1998, the Editorial Department of the journal have been responsible for the publishing of the journal.
In January 2009, the Editorial Department adopted and operated the online editing system with the setup of its own journal website. In August 2009, the paper and online publications began to be offered simultaneously. At the end of the same year, the full texts of scientific papers from all previous issues since 1955 were made available online for open access.
